Intestinal Parasites

I just read an article in the Huffington post by a doctor that has worked with a lot of patients that have CFS type symptoms but actually have intestinal parasites.  Turns out two of them in particular cause symptoms close enough to CFS that many of the patients are misdiagnosed.  Once they are treated for the parasites the CFS symptoms go away.  I believe the ID doc tested for these in myself but now I'm curious and have to go check.  They are Giardia lamblia and Cryptosporidium parvum.

"In evaluating these patients, I found that the majority had intestinal parasites, food intolerance or a lack of healthy intestinal bacteria. (For more information about intestinal bacteria, see Probiotics or Friendly Bacteria) These conditions were not mutually exclusive. Many patients had more than one reason for chronic gastrointestinal problems."

  1. Been here, done this. Didn't work. I get really wary when we are told, this is a 'cure'. I've heard that so many times in the past 20 years.

You can actually get treated through natural means for these parasites. And then there is the drugs that will do the trick as well.

Not to get dash your hopes, just be cautious about getting your hopes up before you see the end result.

Let us know what happens and what you find out.

  2. No I agree that it is only one possible cause. I don't consider it the "cure" for everyone. It is just that the parasites cause the same symptom set as CFS. It is certainly worth it to get tested for them.

I dont' think I got tested for these particular bugs and that surprises me considering the amount of bloodwork that's been done on me. I'll have to check with my regular doctor since I can't figure out all of the jargon particularly since I'm back to being brain fogged again.

  3. I have Babesia which is a parasite like Malaria...treating it right now in fact. Parasites can be nasty and we can get them from our pets easily..especially cats.

  4. I know I got tested for Babesia. The ID doc asked me if I had cats. From what I can tell I didn't get tested for Giardia or cytosporidium.
